Pre Construction – New homes

Subterranean termites enter the property through the foundations. To prevent this, we install a physical termite barrier before construction. The termite management system is a combination of various construction designs that will seal possible entry holes and prevent termites from accessing your home in the future.

A correctly installed physical barrier will work in conjunction with other construction elements to prevent concealed termite entry into a property. Besides sealing off entryways, physical barriers sometimes force termites to make themselves more visible. When the termites become visible, we will spot them during a routine termite inspection.

Some common pre-construction termite barriers we use include:

  • Stainless steel mesh and aggregates: We use marine-grade stainless steel mesh as a physical termite barrier. The mesh opening is too small for termites to crawl through. Therefore, we glue it to masonry or slab or use it around pipes through slabs. For example, Termimesh.
  • Aggregates: aggregates are solid materials we use to prevent termites from penetrating the layer of granite particles within concrete slabs, around pipes, and behind the lower brick of a building’s perimeter.
  • Termite foams and sealants: Termite sealants are flexible and they fill gaps in construction and joints in concrete slabs. Unlike sealants, termite foams contain termiticide and are applied as an expanding solution within the edge rebate cavity of all walls. This ensures complete protection from termites. E.g., Termseal.
  • Metal ant capping: We use metal ant capping through masonry walls and brick piers to force termites to make themselves visible.
  • Termite membranes: Termite membranes are a modern version of ant capping. Membranes are flexible and thick polymer sheeting that contains termiticide. After filling it with termiticide, the membranes provide a chemical and physical barrier to form an effective pre-construction termite barrier.

Post Construction – Existing homes

Homeowners and business property owners can still install termite barriers to protect existing properties. Whether your structure has suffered an attack or you want to prevent an attack, you can utilize post-construction termite management systems for existing homes.

There are two termites of termite management systems for existing homes:

  • Liquid chemical treatments (applied to the soil)
  • Termite monitoring and baiting systems

Termite Barriers

  • Termite liquid chemical barriers

We apply liquid chemical barriers in the soil around your property to prevent termite infestation. The barrier forms a treated zone that repels and kills termites. Sometimes, we dig trenches around the house to create a reticulation system for evenly distributing termiticide under the house. Reticulation systems work for parts of your property where you don’t want us to dig. For example, tiles, pavers, etc.

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we use Termidor to create a chemically treated zone. When termites cross the zone, they automatically become carriers of the odourless and slow-acting chemical. Because of its unique transfer effect, an infected termite will pass the virus to other healthy termites by contact. Then, they also become secondary carriers.

Termites will spread the virus throughout the colony by contact until the entire nest is eliminated. The entire process up until elimination takes a few weeks.

Pro Pest Control Canberra is an accredited Termidor Applicator. If you choose our service, you can rest assured that it is backed by a $2,000,000 assurance warranty.

Termite Baiting Systems

A termite monitoring or baiting system is another technique we use to protect properties. It features bait stations that we insert into the ground all over your property. We fill the station with cellulose baits mixed with Termidor. Since Termidor is odourless, the bait station soon becomes the hot spot for termites.

When termites find the bait station, they will start feeding on the bait and termiticide and will take it back to the nest. This will ultimately eradicate the entire colony. At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we use Trelona, Sentricon, and Exterra baiting systems.

Our termite barrier and baiting system installations follow strict guidelines that protect humans, pets, properties, and the environment from termites. Some guidelines we follow include:

  • Termiticide Chemical Labels
  • Australian Standards AS3660.1-2014 & AS3660.2.-2017
  • Chemical Manufacturing Companies
  • Termite Physical Barrier Product manufactures
  • Building Code of Australia / National Construction Code

Assessing Your Home

The different types of external landscaping that surround a property like Concrete paths, pavers, tiles, soil types, split level homes make a difference to the cost of a Termite Barrier. For example, homes built into split levels and hills pose a significant step. If your property is still within the planning stage, we recommend that you install pre-construction barriers as required by the Australian standards AS3660.1-2014.

Avoid the headache of an attack and call us today. Our solutions are specially tailored to suit each property’s needs. In places where we can’t install a post-construction barrier directly into the soil, we will use a reticulation system or an on-ground baiting system to guarantee the best protection from termites.

Termite monitoring and baiting systems and liquid soil treatments are recognized termite treatment systems that guarantee protection from termites. However, a badly installed system will fail. Because no system can guarantee 100% protection, we carry $20,000,000 public liability to ensure that nothing goes wrong. As accredited Termidor applicators, we offer a $2 million assurance warranty.
